Writeaways at Weymouth Center
What is a Writeaway?
Writeaways are weeklong writing workshop retreats designed to free you from your daily cares so you can devote your full attention to your writing.
A founding principle of the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities is to provide a place for writers to escape the demands of daily life to pursue their literary dreams. In furtherance of this goal, Weymouth partners with Writeaways to sponsor an annual writing workshop/retreat.
For thirteen years, North Carolina-based Writeaways has been holding workshop/retreats around the world, in France, Italy, Ireland, and, in the U.S., North Carolina and New Mexico. Writeaways is unique in many ways, not the least of which being that past literary achievement is not a prerequisite for acceptance. Writeaways works with all levels, from absolute beginners to published authors, and all genres. They look for writers with a desire to improve, no matter where they are beginning, and for people who will be good literary citizens—who, for one week, can make a positive contribution to their Writeaways literary community.
Over the years, Writeaways has earned an international reputation for effective teaching of the craft of creative writing. Weymouth is fortunate to have them as a neighbor and partner.
