Writers-in-Residence Program Frequently Asked Questions

There are four bedrooms on the second floor of the Boyd House. The two bedrooms in the front of the house are the largest (Thomas Wolfe with two twin beds; Paul Green with double bed). Both overlook the garden. Two smaller bedrooms with single beds are in the back near the writers’ kitchen (Max Perkins overlooks back entrance to house; Sherwood Anderson overlooks the gardens and pond). Each bedroom has a desk and comfortable reading chair with appropriate lighting.

There are no ensuite baths. The Thomas Wolfe and Paul Green bedrooms each have a designated bathroom with shower. The Max Perkins and Sherwood Anderson bedrooms share a bathroom with a shower.

A small kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, and small table are available for writers. There is a lounge between the front and back bedrooms that has a small dining table and comfortable chairs. The lounge overlooks the gardens. Information about local restaurants is available in this lounge area. Across from the Thomas Wolfe bedroom, there is a covered porch overlooking the grounds.

Although we do not charge writers-in-residence for the residency, we encourage all writers to donate a minimum of $300 per week to the Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities. You may donate online on the Weymouth website. Go to weymouthcenter.org and click on the “Support” tab. Then “Donate Today,” then “Other.” Enter $300, and add WIR Stay in the comments section. Writers may also choose to bring a check for a donation on the day of arrival. Your donation will be used to maintain the Weymouth property, including the WIR quarters and help ensure that Weymouth continues to serve the community.

Weymouth Center is a smoke-free campus. We do not allow smoking or vaping anywhere on the property, including house, porches, and grounds.
