Weymouth Equestrians “WE”
A Community Equestrian Center For All youth
Weymouth Equestrians (WE) is a community outreach program designed to enroll youth in equestrian experiences, including horse riding and horse care on the grounds of Weymouth. Weymouth is the birthplace of the Moore County Hounds and is the cradle of equestrian pursuits in our area. This afterschool program celebrates Weymouth’s rich equestrian heritage while eliminating barriers to participation in equestrian care and riding for all young people. The power and sensitivity of our horses are used to instill many attributes in our young people such as pride, confidence, empathy, critical thinking, self -control, responsibility, teamwork, and verbal and non-verbal communication skills. W.E. helps to promote a strong character through horsemanship and mentorship. Weymouth Equestrians also have a lot of fun!
Our onsite equestrian facility gives us the opportunity to reinvent its purpose to serve the Southern Pines community with inclusion and relevance.
WE’s flagship after-school program offers multi-week sessions over the course of school year (Fall and Spring) 2 days per week. Students in Weymouth Equestrians learn about horse care: grooming, feeding, vet visits, and farrier; how to care for a barn and cleaning tack; how to safely ride horses and handle horses on the ground; and how to have fun while acquiring life skills.
WE manages liability and safety requirements and provides all necessary riding resources.
Weymouth Equestrians meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Weymouth Center stables (555 E. Connecticut Ave. Southern Pines) from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
