The Festival provides an opportunity for music students in grades four through twelve, from the counties of Cumberland, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond, and Scotland, to perform before credentialed adjudicators from North Carolina schools of music.
Adjudicators this year are Pamela Howland, piano, formerly at Wake Forest University, and David Heid, collaborative pianist at Duke University.
As a long-time educator, Howland has held numerous faculty positions in New York, Minnesota, and North Carolina. She received the Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music. In 2014 she left Wake Forest University to pursue international performing opportunities and new creative projects. She has performed from coast to coast in the United States as both soloist and chamber musician. She recently brought her Chopin meets the Beatles program to the Weymouth Classical Concerts.
Heid is a staff accompanist and teaches piano at Duke University. He is in demand throughout the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area as a collaborative artist and has worked with many of the area’s leading organizations, including NC Opera, Durham Choral Society, NC Symphony, The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, The Fletcher Foundation, Theater in the Park, Thompson Theater Summerfest and Long Leaf Opera. With a successful career in New York City as a vocal coach/accompanist, he is also a composer, arranger, and conductor. He recently accompanied Jemeesa Yarborough, soprano, at the Weymouth Classical Concerts.
Applicants must be currently studying with a teacher in the area of performance for which they plan to audition. Adjudicator comments are focused on building the technical and musical aspects of a student’s performance area. The remarks also provide the student’s teacher with particular information helpful for further study.
The completed application and a check made payable to “Friends of Weymouth”, with YMF noted in the memo area, can be sent to: Weymouth Center, P.O. Box 939, Southern Pines, NC 28388. Teachers will be notified by Monday, February 18, regarding student audition times.
